Meet Dr. Avy Stock
Dr. Avy Stock is a licensed clinical psychologist dedicated to providing evidence based mental healthcare for adolescents and adults. Through individual and family therapy, as well as parent consultation, she fosters a warm and engaging environment where patients feel at ease.
Approach to Treatment
Known for her approachable demeanor, Dr. Stock excels at building strong connections, particularly with teens and young adults. Her emphasis on fostering independence aims to alleviate anxiety and enhance overall functioning in various aspects of life – be it school, work, home, or relationships. When working with adolescents, she strikes a balance between offering practical advice and addressing the unique needs of both the teen and their family.
During therapy, Dr. Stock guides patients to develop greater distress tolerance and increased confidence in their ability to cope with difficult situations. These new skills lead clients to a better understanding of their reactions to various life events and to lead a more fulfilling and values driven life overall. Her areas of expertise encompass treating individuals with anxiety, ADHD, behavioral issues, mood disorders, and relationship challenges. She specializes in assisting individuals facing identity development and adjustment struggles, particularly young adults navigating the complexities of young adulthood.
Experience & Education
Dr. Stock bring extensive experience to her practice, holding a Doctorate of Psychology in School-Clinical Child Psychology from Ferkauf Graduate School of psychology. She completed an APA-accredited internship at North Shore University Hospital and an APPIC-accredited post-doctoral residency in Clinical Psychology at Falls Church Community Services Board. She has experience treating individuals in an array of treatment settings, including hospitals and outpatient programs. She is adept at conducting individual, group, and family therapy, along with administering psychological and neuropsychological evaluations.
Dr. Stock strives to understand each individual client through a lens of curiosity, acceptance, and a generally nonjudgmental stance. Continuously enhancing her skills, she is particularly interested in the intersection between an individual’s symptoms and their lived experience that is specific to their racial, ethnic, and cultural identity. She values collaboration with schools and other service providers so that she can ensure a more comprehensive understanding of her clients.
A member of the Anxiety and Depression Associates of America (ADAA), Dr. Stock received recognition in 2016 with a rising Young Leadership award. She is licensed in DC, MD, VA, and NY and Psypact.
